The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi on Wednesday issued visas to the wife and mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian national who is on death row for spying in Pakistan.
“Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued the visas to the mother and wife of Commander Jadhav to visit Islamabad to meet him, today,†confirmed Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal on Twitter.
The two women will travel to Pakistan to meet Jadhav on December 25 and will be accompanied by an Indian diplomat. Jadhav, a former Indian Navy officer, was arrested in Pakistan on espionage charges last year, and sentenced to death.
India challenged the sentence in the International Court of Justice, which ruled that the execution be halted until it decides on the case. Pakistan has repeatedly denied India consular access to Jadhav, saying the provision of such access under the Vienna Convention does not apply to spies, and that New Delhi wants access only to debrief Jadhav. After pressure from India and the court, Pakistan agreed to allow Jadhav's wife to meet him on "humanitarian grounds".
