That day I realized I had lost her forever. I had lost
her smile, her friendship, her voice…
But still, somewhere in my heart, I believed her to be
my girlfriend. My mute girlfriend.”
Rohan is a telecom professional posted in Meerut and misses his
girlfriend from college days, who had stopped interacting with him,
without giving any reason. Although she had always stood by his side
and her eyes reflected immense love, but she remained his mute
girlfriend.
The book opens with an SMS from Vaidehi to Rohan, after five long
years. But before he could reply, his mobile gets damaged and he
wanders in his memories to narrate a story. About how his girlfriend
became his mute girlfriend after the first year of their engineering
college.
My Mute Girlfriend is a true romance story of how Rohan unravels the
answers to why Vaidehi was mute for so long, and how their life is about
to change. But little do they know that the worst is yet to come.

I know she loves me, but she has been muted for five years.

The cover is in shades of blue and pink. A couple is seen on the cover, who seem to be Bollywood actors. That could have been better cover for the book but this one is beautiful too.  The title is really interesting and arises the curiosity among readers as to what is the meaning of this mute girlfriend. My Mute Girlfriend is a good title for the book, it signifies the incomplete love story.

This is the story about the main protagonists Rohan & Vaidehi. Rohan Verma was from Sagar a small town in Madhya Pradesh and belonged to a decent, well manageable & stable family background with loving parents and an elder sister Surbhi. He was not a highly bright student during his school missionary days in St. Joseph. After getting a huge crush or we can say strong infatuation towards a junior Kavya in his school, marks of his 12th board exams got affected too as he just managed to score second division marks. This book again has an engineering college as the backdrop. Rohan’s family, equivalent to a typical Indian family where people chant the word “engineering” probably hundred times a day. It has become a mantra which is recited almost everyday. Rohan clears his entrance exams with a rank of 3034 in PET. His father and his entire family had a dream to see their son becoming an engineer and create his self identity in this competitive market. Even though he knew he had to study for his entrance exams, Rohan didn’t miss a chance to stare at the framed photograph that sat on his study table. He always dreamt of spending the rest of his life with Navya, his childhood crush. But he could never work up the courage and express his feelings before her. There’s always a right time to do everything and once you miss the chance or you save it for future, you’re letting the chance slip from between your fingers. He was determined to take Computer Science as the stream of engineering but, right at the time of counseling he opted for Electronics & Telecommunication and enrolled himself for a prestigious college in Jabalpur. But that was the turning point of his life, because he crossed path with a charming & simple girl (Vaidehi) at the time of counseling and indirectly or unknowingly she made him change his decision, as she enrolled herself for the same college and stream as well.

Crush is the first letters of love a person experiences in his life. Carrying this unrequited love for Navya, Rohan moves to his engineering college all the while promising that he will come back one day and tell her how he feels. As he starts to settle in his new life routine, with each passing day, his feelings starts to slacken.

Rohan faced many a kind of situations that every engineering student usually faces in academic life. He befriended with Vaidehi there and managed to make some genuine close buddies as well in the hostel. Though Vaidehi had an image of an egoistic girl with full of attitude among her classmates in her hometown at Jabalpur, but she was not that Vaidehi while being with Rohan. Yes, Rohan was unsure about his feelings for Vaidehi but somehow managed to create a firm and good impression on her and frequent deep interactions between them brought them closer and made their bonding inseparable. Meanwhile, Rohan realized that his feelings towards Navya were just nothing but infatuation & he admitted that he loves Vaidehi. After confessing his feelings towards Vaidehi, he realized that she was having the same intense love for him in her heart. Love blossomed between them to the core, and their sweet innocent genuine bond of soulful love made their life more beautiful in every aspect. Their life and relationship was going fine and smoothly and growing intense with each passing day and Rohan got himself lost in love with Vaidehi. But destiny mocked them after a time. Vaidehi stopped talking with or any kind of conversing with Rohan completely and in a sudden way. Vaidehi parted her way with Rohan after the second sem of their engineering, but didn’t stop caring for him neither stopped being concerned for him. Vaidehi’s separation broke Rohan completely and shattered his heart and collapsed his mental peace as well.

“That day I realized I had lost her forever. I had lost her smile, her friendship, her voice…
But still, somewhere in my heart, I believed her to be my girlfriend. My mute girlfriend.”

The language and narration is lucid and easy to comprehend for any kind of readers. Plot of the book is amazing and characterization of every character built up in the book is awesome. It's combinations of true love, friendship, bond, happiness, pain, sadness, disappointment, joy, family, depth of emotions. You can visualise the characters, the scenes, the romance portrayed, the love etched on a portrait.
